Kin was developed following a phishing attack attempt
The Kin search engine was first conceived after an attempted phishing attack was discovered in an advert presented by the search engine DuckDuckGo. Gordon Povey, founder of Better Internet Search and the Kin search engine, discovered that an ad was pretending to be the real Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), but only realised this after an attempt to login to his account failed and the full password was requested. The screenshot below shows the advert (linking to the phishing website) followed the proper RBS links.
This led to thoughts about how to develop a better search engine designed for the user rather than for advertisers and criminals. The short two minute video presents the Kin story.
The Kin white paper has been published and describes the unique search engines ad-free, community-based, web3 business model and the ecosystem 'tokenomics'.
